Our Story

Check out the timeline
of how we got here.

How we started

Our story begins in 2004 when entrepreneurs and college friends Marcus Figueredo and Sérgio Rogal became partners and created Hi Technologies, today known as Hilab. The two fell in love with the area of telemedicine and created the OpenVida Network, a system that monitored hospital patients remotely.

Milli is born!

A few years later, in 2009, Hi created the world's first humanized pulse oximeter: the Milli, now distributed by Medtronic, a global leader in medical technology. The equipment is recognized worldwide as one of the most advanced.

UN recognition and new partnerships

In 2016, Positivo Tecnologia became an investor in Hilab, enabling new projects to humanize and reinvent medical technology. We were also the only South American company chosen by the UN and DNV GL Business Assurance as a case in the report “The Future of Spaceship Earth”.

Hilab is born!

In 2017, Hilab was born, a solution that took Point-of-Care exams to another level. The idea is that, with our Service, anyone can take a test, with just a few drops of blood from their fingertip, no matter where they are.

It was during this period that we became Hilab and our device was named Hilab Flow.

The biggest challenge in our entire history was yet to come: the new coronavirus pandemic. Since the beginning of the crisis, our team has done everything we can to bring COVID-19 tests to as many people as possible in Brazil.

Partnership with the Butantan Institute

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we co-developed the Tainá Platform, used by the Butantan Institute to centralize and manage epidemiological and vaccination data in the COVID-19 pandemic. We also collaborated on Project S, the first clinical study in the world to test the effectiveness of CoronaVac, in Serrana, a city in the interior of the state of São Paulo, in Brazil.

Missions in indigenous lands and isolated communities

Between 2020 and 2021, we participated in missions, together with the Brazilian government, that brought health care to indigenous populations in Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Roraima, and Paraná. We also embarked on an expedition in the Amazon, with the Brazilian Navy, and carried out the Sertão Mission, which brought medical care to isolated communities in Piauí.

New releases

Even with the pandemic, we continued to expand our portfolio, with important exams for monitoring health, such as Renal Function. We also launched a new device for molecular biology tests: the Hilab Molecular.

Award-Winning Design

In 2021 and 2022, Hilab Flow was recognized for its application in the pandemic at renowned design awards. Here in Brazil, we won Design for a Better World 2021, which rewards transformative ideas. Soon after, we received the Gold Awards (DFBW) 2022, in the Service Design category, of the iF DESIGN Awards, considered the “Oscar” of world design.

First CBC in Point-of-Care

In the last quarter of 2021, we presented one of our biggest launches to the market: the Hilab Lens, the first device capable of performing a Complete Blood Count in Point-of-Care Testing (PoCT). Lens also received the DFBW in 2022 and, in early 2023, won the iF DESIGN Awards in the Service Design category.

Hilab Molecular was awarded

Hilab Molecular also competed in design awards, alongside Lens, and won. We received DFBW in 2022, in the design category. Shortly after, we also won the iF DESIGN Awards 2023 in the Service Design category.

First CBC in indigenous lands

In 2023, Hilab Lens embarked on its first humanitarian mission, in partnership with the NGO Xingu+Catu. We performed the first point-of-care complete blood count on registered indigenous lands.

Innovative Workplace 2023

Hilab was awarded the Innovative Workplaces 2023 seal, as one of Brazil's 20 most innovative companies by MIT Technology Review Brasil. The award evaluated the discipline of innovation from different perspectives, such as management, processes, products and services, diversity, data decisions, and others.

New and already award-winning device

In the second half of 2023, the “Hilab family” of devices gained another member: the Hilab Volt, the smallest device for electrochemistry laboratory analysis on the market. And it has already debuted in style, winning the DFBW 2023, in the design category.
